Workshop:
Småhuse
for unge mennesker
In September 2024, we ran a workshop in collaboration with the residents of Andelssamfundet, architects William Stanley Reeve and David Westervik from Grohuse, FBBB and Arkitektskolen Aarhus. The workshop was a feasibility study for a 4500sqm site, within the existing bofællesskab, that could include between 10-12 small-scale housing units. Students from Arkitektskolen Aarhus, members of Grobund and residents of Andelssamfundet were invited to take part in a study of the site and the individual housing forms and throughout the day produced a variety of innovative ideas and solutions.
The event was a great success, with Andelssamfundet, facilitators and architects David Westervik and William Stanley Reeve, and participants leaving with an inspiring and educational day behind them. The day offered concrete draft proposals and interesting ideas for how a new area for young people could be established within the existing framework of Andelssamfundet. The workshop included a site analysis of a concrete, potential area with the bofællesskab, discussions about the role of the community and designing small house typologies. By involving both the young students and the residents in the bofællesskab, new, exciting discussions and creative ideas arose.
Among other things, they talked about:
-
Creating a sense of community.
-
How the existing facilities can be better integrated with the wider community.
-
Rethinking how we use small private spaces and larger communal facilities.
-
Effective implementation of sustainable energy.
-
How to work with time phases and involvement in the construction process.
-
The advantages of building and living small, including the possibility of creating your own home.
-
Construction principles and modular solutions to make the construction process more efficient.
The workshop created fertile ground for many new ideas that can contribute to the development of small homes for young people in Andelssamfundet, where community and sustainability are at the center.
